What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
The Gentle Art
The term jiu-jitsu is derived from the Japanese phrase “the gentle art.” Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, the gentle art, is a martial art that generally focuses on ground fighting. When using proper technique, a smaller and weaker individual can defend against and even dominate a larger and stronger opponent. By using leverage and techniques such as joint locks and chokes, it is possible for a smaller person to dominate a larger person.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training is more rigorous than many other martial arts, due to the intensely physical nature of grappling, vastly improves physical conditioning. Part of a training session includes cardiovascular training, stretching, breathing work and a resistance workouts. These sessions build your strength and endurance, and help increase flexibility.
